Black Hills Community Theatre presents

May 2 - 18, 2008

Jan Swank, the director of The Bible: The Complete Word of God [Abridged], is excited about the final production of Black Hills Community Theatre’s 2007-2008 season. “It requires three adults who can read the audience and respond accordingly,” Swank says. The play, written by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, is similar to their other work.

The company wrote The Complete History of America [Abridged], which had previous success in production for the community theatre. This play relates the complete Bible in comic and abridged form. “Three people must play the parts of all the people in the Bible,” says Swank. “It’s a really exciting form of acting; they’re talking directly to the audience.”

The cast also sings and plays musical instruments. Although it was originally written to be played by three men, Swank is using two men and a woman - Mikal Kraklio, John Heuerman, and Ingrid Johnson.

Mikal Kraklio, who was last seen in BHCT’s production of Coyote on the Fence, says, “I’m excited to be working with Jan again. This is a crazy show, and I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with Ingrid and John.” John Heuerman, last seen in the BHCT dinner theatre fundraiser, Love, Sex and the IRS, agrees, “I have a feeling it will be different than anything I’ve been in before.” Ingrid K. Johnson was the stage manager for BHCT’s production of Amadeus and played “Red Riding Hood” in Into the Woods in the kickoff to this BHCT season.

“We’re ending with a bang,” says Swank, “this is a funny show that has been a hit everywhere it’s played from London to Keokuk.”

“The comic possibilities are endless. I’m excited to see how an audience who knows the Bible responds,” says Swank. “It’s primarily sketch comedy like Monty Python or the Capitol Steps. The humor is similar to a Jay Leno or David Letterman monologue”.

Artistic & Production Staff: Jan Swank - Director, Rebecca Kramer – Assistant Director/Stage Manager, Molly O. Dailey – Musical Director, Chris Lee – Costume Designer and Amy McClure – Light Designer
