Average Family

A Comedy in the Studio Theater
By South Dakota Native and 2020 MacArthur Genius Grant Recipient Larissa FastHorse
Directed by Chris Piña and Merlyn Q. Sell
September 23, 24, 30, October 1, 7, 8 at 7:30pm
September 25, October 2, 9 at 2:00pm

Based on CDC guidelines, masks are currently encouraged but not required at events, except at selected performances. This policy may change in accordance with the CDC's stated risk level for Pennington County.
BEFORE EVERY PERFORMANCE: Local Lakota artist Focus Smith, the scenic designer for Average Family and his team of painters will be leading a painting session one hour before each play performance in the parking lot of the Studio Theater. All audience members will be encouraged to spray paint on pieces that will then be incorporated into the play's set.
The Roubidouxs may come from Indigenous heritage, but they are your typical technology-loving, city-dwelling family. When they are “randomly” chosen to compete against a rustic working class family on a reality tv show - tasked with living off the land of a Minnesota prairie for three months - they are in for a real culture shock. They must learn how to work together and reconnect with their Dakota culture in order to win a cash prize in this hilarious comedy perfect for the whole family.
