Spring 2027-Into the Woods, Jr.
Since its inception in 1999, the Cherry Street Players has introduced over 1,000 young people aged 6-14 to the artistic and technical fundamentals of theater. Students participate in classroom exercises and instruction that culminate in the rehearsal and performance of a fully staged production each semester. All participants get a chance to showcase what they’ve learned and experience the excitement of performing live for the community. The fall semester typically runs from September-December and the spring semester from January-April. Note the rehearsal schedule below.
We currently offer two youth theatre programs during the school year: The Cherry Street Players and Cherry Street Mini:
The Cherry Street Players program typically runs from September to December for ages 10-14. For the first 5-7 weeks, depending on the year, students will meet on Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm or Monday afternoons from 4-6pm to engage in theatrical based curriculum. These classes serve as the building of a foundation of skills that will aid them in the second part of the program: a fully staged production. After the class section we hold auditions where each student is guaranteed a part in the show. We spend the next 6-8 weeks rehearsing for our production. The schedule transitions to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. Usually, students are only called 3x a week- often 2 weekdays and everyone on Saturdays.
The Cherry Street Mini program typically runs from 4-6pm on Tuesdays from September-October, 5-7 weeks depending on the year, for ages 6-10. The Mini program is catered towards students who want to dip their toe into the world of theatre, perfect for beginners or for a low-commitment schedule. The Mini class is structured to expose students to different types of theatre: devising, improvisation, writing, etc. On the final Tuesday of class, we will hold a showcase presenting all they learned over the course of the semester. Each Mini showcase is different because the performance is driven by the students, based on what they enjoyed most in the class.
