Chris Lee

Costume Shop Manager

This will be Chris Lee’s ninth season with BHCT as costume shop manager. She also designs costumes for BHCT’s productions. Some of her recent work were costumes for MacBeth, Beauty and the Beast, Lend Me a Tenor, and Sense and Sensibility. Chris received her B.S. in Ed. from Black Hills State University and her M.A. in Theater with an emphasis in costume design from Minnesota State University.

Chris first designed costumes for BHCT for the production of The Music Man in 1993 and continued to design costumes in the following years. Some of her favorites were Hello Dolly, Twelfth Night, Great Expectations, and A Christmas Carol.

In addition to BHCT, Chris has work with Deadwood Productions, Sturgis Area Arts Council, Matthews Opera House and Firehouse Theatre. She also drafted a pattern for the film Lakota Woman and worked with British Disney for an episode they filmed in the Black Hills. During the summers from 2001 to 2010, Chris worked as wardrobe mistress for Black Hills Passion Play in Spearfish, SD, maintaining the costume stock, dressing volunteer actors and making new costumes.

While attending MSU, Chris did an internship with Minneapolis Children’s Theatre. After graduating, she work a summer season with Music Theatre of Wichita. Afterwards she was Assistant Costume Designer at Oklahoma Theater Center in Oklahoma City where she designed costumes for shoes such as Gaslight, Of Mice and Men, and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
The mission of BHCT is to inspire, entertain, and educate the Black Hills community through quality theatre with a vision to be an inclusive and diverse community of people pursuing excellence in the theatre arts.
