Matthew Vidal

Director of Education and Outreach

Matthew Vidal was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he got his start with theatre right here at BHCT as a middle schooler who was enrolled in Cherry Street Players. Since then, Matthew has pursued theatre with a great passion and attended The University of South Dakota where he was enrolled in the Musical Theatre program.

Matthew has worked for other area theatres as a director and actor, including Seraphim Theatrical Entertainment, the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival and the Premiere Players in Sioux Falls. Ever since Matthew was too old to be in the kids’ theatre classes, he’s been teaching them, from summer camps at BHCT to being a Theatre Director for Douglas Middle school.

Since returning from college, Matthew has appeared onstage in several mainstage productions throughout Rapid City including, A Christmas Carol (Scrooge), Urinetown (Bobby Strong), Shrek (Lord Farquaad), A Chorus Line (Al) and A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder (Monty Navarro). Backstage, Matthew worked as the Assistant Director for BHCT’s Sister Act, as well as the Director for Seraphim’s Play that Goes Wrong, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
The mission of BHCT is to inspire, entertain, and educate the Black Hills community through quality theatre with a vision to be an inclusive and diverse community of people pursuing excellence in the theatre arts.

Black Hills Community Theatre performs on the ancestral homelands of the Paha Sapa. We acknowledge we share this community with the Oceti Sakowin and the legacies of violence, displacement, migration and settlement that have brought our community together.
